Linus Torvalds ha lanzado una nueva versión del kernel Linux 2.6.39, incorporando soporte para el hardware más nuevo, como ser USB3, las placas de AMD/ATI 6900 y más. Podemos leer la lista completa de cambios en The Linux Kernel Mailing List.
Pero Michael Larabel, de Phoronix, no se olvida de comentar que aún persiste la falla de consumo excesivo, y además apareció recientemente otra falla con el nuevo chipset de Intel, el Sandy Bridge. Esta falla se hizo presente de manera muy sorpresiva, pero dudo que persista, dado que Intel, junto a otras grandes empresas, están trabajando codo a codo con el Linux Kernel.
Sin embargo, cuando mencionamos la falla de consumo excesivo por primera vez, pensamos que no duraría demasiado, y aquí estamos aún, y sin tener muy en claro cuándo podría llegar a solucionarse. Es extraño, me pregunto si siquiera están trabajando en la misma.

Ah yes… the kernel panic… I dealt with one of those today (referring to the image).
Linux box (Ubuntu Server, RAID 1+0 x2 160GB HDD), was mirroring an apt server.
It crashed and started throwing backfire onto my schools computer lab private network.
It crashed almost all of the networking equipment in that room until the problem was located
(my server) and resolved (power plug).
Turned it back on off the network to see why it crashed this morning and I figured out rather quickly.
Thank god that part of the network was isolated or I would have been in more trouble.
At least I’m not going to be trying to mirror the Ubuntu apt servers again any time soon.
